Steve Castan
1. what first inspired you to become a drummer?
I was 12. My uncle gave me a snare for my birthday. It was loud. It was good.
tried lessons at school. Hated them. Started listening to music and playing along. The The “soul mining”, midnight oil “10 to 1”, the Sunnyboys first album and Hoodo Gurus “stoneage romeos” all inspired me. Hated hair metal bands but had to mime drums to Kiss for school camp skit night. The girls went wild. I was sold as a drummer.
2. anything that you’ve learnt along the way that’s really helped you as a drummer?
practice helps. 2 x shots of wild turkey (no more) just before a gig helps. Don’t smoke pot before a show. Get a roadie.
3. who have you and/or who are you playing with at the moment and what are the bands movements
Anything to plug?
not playing drums anymore. Was playing in band “screenings” but we just got a new drummer. Now I am back on guitars and vocals. Recording new stuff at the moment. Sometimes miss playing drums, don’t miss carrying and setting them up and down.
