1. what first inspired you to become a drummer?

As a child I was always hyperactive and constantly tapping the dinner table to my mothers horror.
I had always lived with musicians and had access to a kit, although I never played in a band as a drummer (I did a bit of singing)  I was A&R for an indie record label until I decided I wanted to be a drummer in a heavy rockin band . When I turned 30 I figured it was now or never to buy a kit and get serious about drumming.

2. anything that you've learnt along the way that's really helped you as a drummer?

We'll start with never letting your roadie set up your kit....
I'm self taught so I could go on and on about what i've learnt but I wont.. Listening to great drummers and trying to copy thier craft started it all off for me. As for now I realise its more about keeping time and creating an original atmosphere within the group. Its not about the drumming its about the songs.

3. who have you and/or who are you playing with at the moment and what
are the bands movements?

I am playing with a monsterous three piece stoner/grunge band called NOR.WAY. We're from very different musical backgrounds which helps as a collective musical unit. We have recently
recorded a live online demo with 3 songs for your pleasure. We're planing an east coast tour, but more
importantly  getting our music out there and reached by the people who will love this music. We want to record more, and start Australian domination with with our live energy and bring back the early ninetys grunge movemnet. The line consists JAMIE ISAACHSEN-GUITAR.VOX, LEE SOOGUN-BASS, and
yours truly MATT FLEMING-DRUMS.

Anything to plug? Check out our website:
www.myspace.com/norwayband for our demo and bio. It'll list upcoming gigs and if you're interested in getting in contact with us, just drop us a line.

4. what gear are you using at present?
I'm currently using a souped up Mapex VX 6 piece 10", 12", 14" & 16" all with evans g1 coated heads. G2 coated on the snare. All cymbals are Sabian b8's, 20" ride, 18" crash, 16" crash and 14" hats. I'm using tama iron cobra hi hat stand and bass drum pedal. gibralter throne and Mapex hardware.
Sounds massive!!!!!

5. what would be your dream gig?

I'd have to say NOR.WAY playing with nirvana, seemless & the sword would be hard to pass up although like the question asks it is obviously a dream gig. In reality any gig we put on is a dream gig.

6. favourite drummers and/or bands and why?

Derek Kerswill of seemless because he creates so much from such a small kit.
The Sword dummer is phenomanal as is the drummer from High on fire. Also these are probably my 3 favourite bands at the moment. If you like heavy rock you should check these bands out!!!
