1. What first inspired you to become a drummer?
Hearing some classics growing up, my favourites were Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, Stuart Copeland and Frank Beard. There were numerous others also, but these were my early favourites.
2. Anything that you've learnt along the way that's really helped you as a drummer?
You have to practice, and practice properly - and often. Chat to other drummers, go to exhibitions, gigs, listen to music, and really try to be a part of your kit.
"The only difference between all drummers is how you play - not what you play. All drummers are similar, but what separates them all is how they project through the kit." - Dave Weckl
3. Who have you and/or who are you playing with at the moment and what are the bands movements? Anything to plug?
For about 7 years, i jammed with a friend of mine Andre Storti, who has a fantatstic passion of blues/rock guitar.
Lately, i have been rehearsing with Corporeal (Aus), auditioned for Kornerupine, expressions of interest from Into the Red, Degrees of Separation, Applecross, Love System Deluxe, and various other solo artists.
Above all else, i like to play/practice jazz/blues (traditional) beats and rudiments. So you may even find me street-performing around Melbourne with just my snare!!
4. What gear are you using at present?
I am the proud owner of an original 1969 vintage Pearl 'Challenger 45' 4pc outfit; with original (that's right!) 15" Pearl cymbal. Along with this, some Gibraltar hardware, Remo skins, Vic Firth sticks and Meinl cymbals.
5. What would be your dream gig?
I'd love to be a part of the ADAA festival held each year in the USA, the Meinl expo in Europe, to play at Glastonbury, Donnington, Wembley, or any number of the countless European, American, Asian, Australian (naturally!) festivals & shows throughout the year.
To play at any of the USA House of Blues venues would be great also.
6. Favourite drummers and/or bands and why?
So many! Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) is a huge fav. His MASSIVE Tama 'Purple Monster' kit has to be seen to be believed!! Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang, Lars Ulrich, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Greg Bisonnette, Marco Minnemann, Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Vinnie Coluaita, Dom Famularo are some of the well known faves. There are a lot more, and especially the friends I know who are playing at the moment - HUGE influences.
