On Tuesday May 25th @ 7pm The Drummers Club, finally gets to host  Ben Vanderwal, one of the most in demand Jazz drummers in Australia. Ben has played all over the world with likes of John Scofield, Charlie Haden, Howard Levey,  Madeleine Peyroux, James Morrison, Chris Potter, George Garzone, Kate  Ceberano, Mark Murphy, Ernie Watts, Lionel Rose, George Garzone, David  Campbell, Rhonda Birchmore, Nigel Kennedy, Don Burrow etc..
Ben will be speaking and demonstrating lateral practice  techniques, Jazz independence, the brushes and the application of Afro cuban rhythms..

So for you Jazz and Latin dudes and anyone wanting some inspiration this is a must see, Simple as that!!!!!!!!

Ben Vanderwal is one of the most in demand Jazz drummers in Australia. 
 From an early age he encountered the legendary drummer/teacher Frank 
Gibson Jnr,  the ultimate Jazz zealot who helped unravelled the 
mysteries of that strange, fascinating music in of all places, Perth.

Originally from there, Ben has lived in New York and Melbourne and 
performed around the world including tours of the U.K., France, 
Ireland, India the U.S.A., Phillipines. Japan, New Zealand, New 
Caledonie, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and Thailand.

He has played with John Scofield, Charlie Haden, Howard Levey, 
Madeleine Peyroux, James Morrison, Chris Potter, George Garzone, Kate 
Ceberano, Mark Murphy, Ernie Watts, Lionel Rose, George Garzone, David 
Campbell, Rhonda Birchmore, Nigel Kennedy, Don Burrow, Deborah Byrne 
and Normie Rowe.

In Melbourne he was a regular member of the Sunday Salsa night 
"Nightcat" fixture "los Cabrones".

Ben has performed on over thirty recordings with a wide variety of 
artists. In 2005, The album "Amazing Grace" (Andy Vance Trio) which 
featured Ben was Nominated for an ARIA award. In 2007 the album "You R 
Here" (Jamie Oehlers)  which also features Ben, was given the Bell 
award for best Australian album of that year. In 2008, "The Spanish 
Tinge" by the Ben Winkelman Trio record that features Ben won the 
Australian Independent RDKHA (AIR) award for best independent Jazz 
release.

In the last couple years has returned to New York  to study privately 
with some of the top Afro Cuban artists on the planet.

Currently, Ben is teaching the drum set at the Western Australian 
Academy of Performing Arts.
