Drummers Club - Roby Corelli April 2009

On the last Tuesday night of each month we play host to some of Melbourne’s finest players as they demonstrate their wares.

The Drummers Club this April will feature drummer/author/educator Roby Corelli whose impressive list of credits includes Grand Wazoo, Relax With Max, The Drifters, Guy Sebastian, Howlin Time, Kelly Auty and Jon Forman (Oz Idol Fame) to name but a few.

Roby will discuss the many aspects  required to build a strong drumming foundation; Timing, feel and groove, independence, reading and musical discipline etc.

He will also cover the Two Tone concept for Hi-Hat, Ride and Snare Drum within grooves while demonstrating ghosted note (Foundation Feels) from his book Phantom Groove.

This is a FREE evening, however we would encourage you to make a gold coin donation to The Prahran Mission on the night. Thus helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Drummers Club - Tuning With Steve Morrison - May 2009

The topic for discussion will be TUNING. This is a much neglected topic as many think if they buy a top end kit, they will automatically have good sounding drums. Not the case.

This will be a hands on session and I guarantee you’ll know something about tuning when you leave. So if you have a lousy sounding snare, tom, kick whatever bring it in and I’ll show you some techniques that will immediately improve their sound and your playing.

Tuesday May 26th from 7pm-8pm.

This is a FREE evening, however we would encourage you to make a gold coin donation to The Prahran Mission on the night. Thus helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Secret Drum Day Wrap Up 2009

The Secret Drum Day has being and gone and i have to say that the feedback from those that attended has been nothing short of fantastic. There was an amazing amount of helpful information with regard to health and posture, dealing with 'delicate individuals', setting goals and been persistent, being 100% passionate about your craft, creating new sounds and a great forum in which all the drummers sat upfront and answered an array of audience questions.

So a Big Thanks in order of appearance goes out to Darren Perkins, Dr Melissa Arkinstall, Cam McGlinchey, Trav Demsey, Tony Floyd and Pete Luscombe for your generosity and time - hopefully we will see more punters next time!

And we were able to raise enough funds to buy a drumkit to supply to the education department to allocate to one of the schools that rebuilds after the devastating bushfires. So to everyone involved well done.

Thanks to our sponsors Evans for supplying so many great prizes in between each act, Whitelion for all the great work they do in the community, the Stonnington and Northcote Leader newspapers, Inpress, MX and the awesome 3 PBS FM, The Age's EG for promoting the Secret Drum Day, christie at themusic.com.au, Trav's poster guy, and Michael Findlay for his pix of the day, Paul Frangos and to my family for helping out on the day.

We will be back bigger and better next time round - you can bank on that!
