A drummer for 18 years, Barnaby Gold is a sought-after performer and educator of Jazz, Blues, and Funk music.  At 19, he won a national drumming title, moving on to refine his musicianship at the Victorian College of the Arts.  In 2000, Barnaby spent three months in the United States, studying with some of the major exponents of New Orleans and New York drumming styles, including Johnny Vidacovich, John Riley, and Leon Parker.  He has studied with 26 players in all.  Barnaby has been a freelance drummer in Melbourne for over ten years, working with some of Australia’s best-known Jazz and Blues performers – including Shelley Scown, Bob Sedergreen, Paul Williamson, and Kerri Simpson - and has played in New Orleans, New York, Hong Kong, and Thailand.  He has taught at secondary and tertiary levels for nearly ten years.  His teaching bag is diverse, including Joe Morello’s natural hand techniques, the 26 American Rudiments, reading skills, and the working drummer’s groove vocabulary.  Barnaby endorses Premier Drums, Sabian Cymbals, and Vater Drumsticks.
