Practice Plan
Many times I have students how don’t know how to practice or have never
thought about how to but rather just sit on the kit and play with no
plan or thought to getting a result from their time.
Enter the very simple practice plan. If you have never had a plan or you do have one but want to try one that’s quick and simple then I urge you to give this a go.
Firstly it will only last you 30 mins, I will break it down to three sections of 10 mins each and that is all I want you to do for now.
Start with rudiments, singles, doubles and parradiddles in whatever count you like. Add in the bass drum or don’t, the choice is yours but you must do this for the full 10mins at the start EVERY time.
Once this is done work on whatever material or technique you are currently studying or are trying to perfect no matter at what level you may be at. For people currently having lessons this would most likely be the lesson you last had with your teacher.
Finish with 10 mins of your own free time or muck around time. This is the time to have fun and experiment on the kit to actually try some of the ideas you are working on to get them into your own style.
This is a very simple method of practice that will cover all of the bases you need to get better. Yes I know that 30mins is a short amount of time but I know of many students who are not even doing this amount because they have no plan to achieve anything from practice.
The best part of it is that you can increase the blocks of time by any amount but make sure you keep the ratios relatively close to get the most benefit in all areas of playing.

If you are currently practicing with no plan or marked results then do this four times a week and watch how much better you will get, it will surprise you.
See ya
